History of Jazz with Tóth Viktor Part 1.

“People often complain that they don’t understand my music. But how could they in one moment understand something I thought about for ten years…” Miles Davis

Saxophonist Tóth Viktor presents 100 years of jazz through live music, audio and video examples and explanation. The audience gets an introduction to the history of jazz and its various styles through presentation of various examples. With the help of his commentary, the listener may find the keys to a deeper understanding and appreciation for jazz.

Tóth Viktor has several times been named Hungary’s alto saxophonist and composer of the year. His ‘easily understood jazz’ lecture-demonstration-concert has been successful at sold out performances in Hungary and elsewhere in Europe. This is the online version of that concert.

“During my concerts I have often felt that the audience needed a few sentences before or after a piece of music in order to get a deeper understanding of what we are playing and why. Jazz is a very traditional genre, the styles and modes of expression build upon one another. The intellectual and spiritual expression in music is closely connected to what people were living and feeling. At first jazz may seem complicated to the 'untrained' ear, but I am convinced that with the help of examples and some guidance, and when the music is brought into context, it can become a great experience for both the heart and mind.”
