The Fonó turns 21 this year!

The Fonó turns 21 this fall and we have more than 21 programs scheduled to celebrate!

In celebration of its 21st birthday, from October through December 2016, the Fonó organizes a series of special concerts and dance houses featuring: Pearly Clouds, Nigun, Kerekes Band, Dresch Quartet, Fonó Szerdák, Berka együttes, Zuboly, Tokos, Tükrös, Nana Vortex, Góbé, Makám, Messzecsinka, Söndörgő, Apnoé, East Gipsy Band, Oláh Gipsy Beats, Ferenczi György and Rackajam, Viktor Tóth, Mihály Borbély, and more.

The Fonó opened its doors on October 20th, 1995 and ever since it has maintained its original mission: offering ongoing opportunity for presentation of folk music and dance, ethno-jazz and world music from Hungary and the surrounding countries. Last year the Fonó was recognized with Hungary’s Prima Primissima Award for the category of folk arts and public recreation and culture. It also won the Magyar Brand title. The previous year, Fonó received the Hungarian Heritage Award. As a record label, this is the fourth year Fonó is on WOMEX list of top world music labels; and in 2016 as the only Central-Eastern European label on the list it ranks number 4 (!) on the top labels list! This ranking is earned by the number of released recordings that have made the monthly top list.
